Instead of looking at what we think autism is, we are going to jump into a whole new arena ! Changing the way you view and handle autism forever ! We are going to be examining the many common misconceptions of autism.
I'll be discussing some of the techniques that I've used on my 4 year old autistic son, Justin. He was 3 years old, about a month before his fourth birthday. I had searched everything I knew how to search, and I found lots of information on defining autism as well as the symptoms of autism. What I couldn't find was much on how to handle or treat it. Other than, " Take him to a professional." I totally agree that autistic children need professional therapies, and services. For me what was missing was a way I could work with him one on one. A way I could break through the invisible barrier that surrounded him, and draw him out. I learned exactly how to do that with Justin. Through sharing my struggles, failures, and successes I hope to offer hope to those who are parents or caregivers who have children with autism.
